Jake Got the Blues
One half of the Blues Brothers has left the building. Cradled in Susan's arms, Jake passed on Monday, September 17 after a brief illness. The doctors at Lakeline Animal Care, the Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin, and Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital did everything possible to save Jake, but it was not too be.

Jake was Susan's first agility dog and winning a 1st place in JWW at his first trial started her addiction. They had some tough times as they both learned this sport, but finally started achieving titles when they moved to Florida where the rings were fenced and covered. Jake never liked running in the sun in Phoenix and would always leave the ring to search for a shady spot. A few months ago, Jake let Susan know that he was done competing, so they stopped, but still played agility in the backyard. He loved it so.

Jake was a dear loving companion who traveled the country with Susan as they moved from Arizona, to Florida, and finally to Texas. Jake was at home in any hotel and loved riding in the car. In New Orleans, Jake visited Bourbon Street and had breakfast at Café du Monde. In San Antonio, he promenaded on the Riverwalk. He's hiked the mountains in Phoenix, played at the shores of lakes and oceans, and experienced two category three hurricanes huddled in the laundry room with his family. It was a short, but full life.

Jake leaves behind sad owners, Susan and Frank DeMar, a puzzled brother, Woody, and a lonesome stepbrother, Shane.
